Kristen Thiemann is a Korean-American artist based in New Jersey. Her self-portraiture explores the tensions between the understanding of identity and the technological forces that alter self-perception, such as social media and smartphones. To Thiemann, painting is a reclaiming of the self and a mode of transformation that explores humanity beyond what can be captured in an image. Her artwork has been featured in galleries in both New Jersey and New York City. She is currently a participant in the Uncool Artist Residency of Brooklyn.
